Swim 2013

Yes, I'm posting about swimwear already...I know, I know, we're still enjoying our coats, gloves, and adorable hats.  But, the summer season will be here before you know it and I've been seeing a lot of tweets and posts about upcoming vacations you lucky girls all have.  So, that being said, let's take a look at some adorable choices for the upcoming fun!  My Curves & Me has some adorable choices, not to mention they're cheap swimwear, and not made for only a size 0, which is refreshing!  The nautical trend is a trend that I always love and my favorite of the suits pictured is the striped below.  Nautical never goes out of stye and has that certain retro quality that I adore.

My Curves & Me not only carries swimwear, but a fabulous collection of lingerie as well.  The website is really user friendly and their customer service is really great.  I have a trip coming up in April to Palm Springs and I'm thinking about ordering the striped one above.  What do you think?  Which one would be the most fun for Spring Break?

Loving the turquoise accents on the classic black above.

Sexy Sequins for New Years Eve

6 Ways to Wear Sequins on New Year's

Few things are as synonymous with New Year's Eve as sequins. Coming at the tail end of the holidays, right before winter's deep freeze, New Year's Eve is a time to celebrate dazzling promise and hope.

To ring in 2013 properly, you need to narrow down your options from the many overdone sequined dresses out there. To do that, you need to understand what’s popular this season.

Fit to a 'T'

The beauty of this silver stunner by Adrianna Papell is that rather than being too tight, it is slightly roomy like your favorite crew neck T-shirt. The cap sleeves give great coverage as well and help to create a balanced silhouette. This is not only universally flattering, but will leave room for dancing throughout the night.

Rose Colored Glasses

A surprising color choice for New Year's is light blush wine. Rarely seen in sequin form, this rosy shade looks great with any hair color and classic red lips. This dress, by Rubber Ducky, will play up great legs while keeping things modest on top with three-quarter length sleeves.  Here are some more dresses like this one from Rubber Ducky.

Refined Disco

You can bring some Studio 54 glam to a New Year's party with a gleaming gold mini dress set off by unexpected split bat-wing sleeves. This is a great look for someone who likes to add a little more sophistication to a party dress.

Demure Dazzler

For ladies who prefer a more understated look, this dress is a perfect choice.   The combination of a burnished gold sequined bodice and a cream chiffon skirt will provide just enough flash when the lights go down for the ball drop.

Midnight Mesh

Inky black sequins make anyone’s curves look great in this dress by ASOS. It is a deep plunge dress that both busty and smaller chested women can wear, thanks to the modest panel of black mesh.   This look is both sexy and classic look that will for sure turn some heads.

Confetti Drop

For more formal affairs, nothing captures the moment when the confetti falls quite like this special dress from David's Bridal. A ruched sash wraps over a sweetheart neckline to provide dramatic asymmetry. Pewter sequins fade from clumps to flurries down the lines of a dove gray chiffon gown. Side slits provide plenty of opportunities to flash a little leg.   You can find more dresses like these at David’s Bridal.

No matter what dress you decide to go with, remember that leaving out the sequins is just as bad as toasting 2013 with an empty champagne glass!

Isn't It About Time?

Add that little extra to your outfit

Being a fan of classic styles, beautiful accessories and all things vintage, when I recently heard that watches are making a huge comeback I found it extremely pleasing. For me watches are amongst the most stylish as well as beautiful pieces of accessory that one can wear. There are so many different models to choose from that everyone can be sure to find the perfect watch. I personally am really fond of vintage watches because not only do they have an inherent timeless beauty but they also fit with every outfit.

Fancy and handy

Honestly, I think these watches can be combined with every style: They fit very well with a vintage outfit (who would have guessed!) but also in combination with recent clothes they make for great eye-catchers and add that little something. And besides their fashionable qualities they do also serve very practical purposes. I for my part find it quite tiresome from time to time having to poke for my phone in my handbag (which is by no means at all clearly arranged) just to learn what time it is. Now a simple and quick glance at my wrist is enough to know what time it is (and most of the time I am late again for whatever I do).

The return of the individual style

To be absolutely frank I let myself be talked into regarding watches as something out-of-date years ago, when cell phones changed our lives forever. But recently I learned to appreciate them again not only as fashionable and handy accessory, but also as some kind of personal statement. Have you ever felt that owning one of the latest cells is nothing special anymore since so many people own the exact same phone or an even better model? Well, you are not alone. Whereas owning a specific and modern phone may have been a display of one’s personal and individual taste some years ago, it now seems that everyone has the same taste. Wearing a watch nowadays is therefore much more of a fashion statement. Slim or bulky, slender or heavy, cheap or expensive, black, white, red, green, orange or whatever other color one can think of, there is definitely the right model available for every taste.

MY English Teacher...

Hi Ya'll!  My name is Robelyn and I've rolled my duct tape over from red.neck Chic... I'm so honored that Kori invited me over - Thank You Kori!!!

I "met" Kori via blogging about a year ago...

Instant adoration on my part.

A. Kori is so fun and has INCREDIBLE style (seriously - I come over here to drool over whatever she's taunting me with... then I go back to my closet and just hang my head in absolute disgust.)

B. She's a High School English Teacher! I like that about her.

In high school I had the GREATEST English teacher. Ms. Scott.  I remember looking down the elementary halls and seeing Ms. Scott standing in the high school halls and thinking, "I can't wait for her to fail me in English be my English teacher!" And I would patiently wait to hit Jr. High.

Ms. Scott ALWAYS wore a dress. Not just ANY dress... but a shirt dress. And each one had a full, floaty, graceful skirt.  In the summer she would wear sandals with her dress and in the winter she would wear pumps with a modest heel and add in a cardigan. Her hair was blonde and never a strand out of place - her make-up understated but flattering, and she always wore small post earrings that matched her dress choice for the day... SO much a lady!

If you ever meet me in person remind me to show you how Ms. Scott walked... I have it down to a Science!  Oh wait... did I just switch subjects? hmmmm....

It wouldn't have been good AT ALL for me to try and be like Ms. Scott while in Jr. High and High School (I had a reputation to protect you know - couldn't go 'round tradin' in my Keds and Guess jeans for Ms. Scott inspired dresses), sew I stayed busy trying to be like Molly Ringwald (do you remember Pretty in Pink? Augh! She made the sewing machine COOL!). But... the older I get the more I remember Ms. Scott's style and incredible "ladylike" mannerisms.  I didn't say I was duplicating all of that (I'm a red.neck after all!), I just remember them. :o)

I'm fairly certain she was a good teacher as well as wearing pretty dresses.  I used to have to turn in a "journal" with one page filled each week. That poor lady... she had to read stuff like: "Monday. Ms. Scott! Ms. Scott!!! JimBobEarl LOOKED at me, can you believe that?! I about walked in to my locker! Think he likes me?! Oh, he's so CUUUUUTE - the cutest boy in school!" and then things like: "Wednesday: MS. SCOTT! I stole my Mother's car and went driving through a garden! Want some tomatoes?"

all images from here
She had to have been a good teacher - otherwise she would have turned me in to my mother for the whole car theft/garden demolition thing...

comin' to you LIVE from a single-wide that I parked in Kori's back yard while she's on vacation....ssssshhhhhh... don't tell her I'm back here - but ya'll are welcome to join me anytime!!! We'll throw Kori a surprise party when she gets back home! I'll bring the duct tape and garden vegetables...

Falling for Fall by Pink Preppy Lilly Lover

(Images via)

Hello dear readers!
I'm Trish from Pink Preppy Lilly Lover,
and I am thrilled to be filling in for Miss Kori while she is enjoying her very well deserved vacation!

Kori always finds the most beautiful things to post for my Pink and Green Thursday blog linkup, and I love playing along with her for her series, Fashion Fridays.  One thing Kori and I definitely share a mutual passion for is all things inspired by fashion!   When I think about shopping this time of year, although it is hard to pack away the bikinis and seersucker and say farewell to summer, leather riding boots and cozy cashmere sweaters start calling my name, and I can't help but get excited for the fun fall fashion transition.

H&M's newest ad campaign for Fall 2011 featuring the lovely Sasha Pivovarova just speaks right to my heart with the warm rich tones, layering with dresses and vests, and of course lots of opaque tights with boots.  How could you not fall in love with fall with looks so cute and affordable?

What are your favorite looks for fall?  Please share!

Thanks so much for having me, Kori!
You can always find me blogging here, on twitter, on tumblr, or on pinterest.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!
xoxo
Trish

Traveling and Packing: It's a love/hate relationship.

Hello everyone!  I'm Heather from ...this & that... and I'm guest posting today for the absolutely, fabulous Kori while she's on vacation.  I love to travel and thought I'd come up with a fun "travel" post for today...so, let's go:

Traveling.  Packing.  It's a love/hate relationship, don't you think?  For girls that is and maybe for some of you gentlemen as well.  Either you love it.  You hate it.  Or it's purely love/hate combination.  Which is it for you?  For me I love it!  Truly I do.  I love it more so NOW that I have my packing under control.  I used to always pack way too much clothes.  Always.  However, I will say that packing for "me" is a work-in-progress.  I constantly strive to pack the essentials and exactly what I need all while looking chic while on vacation.  I'm sure some of you are shaking your head, nodding and maybe smiling while reading this post.  Seriously, packing can be and is at times a challenge.
Last November I went on a 12-day European vacation and packing was extremely overwhelming.  I need enough clothes for a 7-day cruise and 5-days in Rome.  All while making sure I was dressed appropriately for each climate and continent (Europe, Africa).  And mind you I packed 62+ pounds of clothing.  Oh, yes I did!  Uh-huh, yes, you did in-fact read that correctly.  One bag was 62 pounds.  Oh, and I had two other smaller bags as well.  One bag was almost completely filled with travel books and that will never happen again.  But, it is important to be prepared.

When one travels it's important to be prepared.  And yes, that involves a little research.  Yes, research.  Your reading this thinking "is she crazy, research, to travel?"  I say this because checking the weather ahead of time and figuring out "what" you will be doing can and will make a huge difference of what you will and won't bring.  A few examples: rain, snow, heat.  Bringing a rain coat or a warm sweater can make all the difference.  Unless, of course you don't mind buying something on vacation?  Some of us won't mind this at all.  I was very glad I brought my rain coat to Rome however, I did need to buy a hat and boy did they both "help" keep me warm!

It's amazing what a few minutes of weather research and a "rough" itinerary of what you may or may not do can help you streamline what to pack and help you use 1 carry-on suitcase and a great tote bag.  For me, this is absolutely crucial.  I want to walk off the plane and right to my transportation with no waiting.  Plus, I don't want 62+ pounds of luggage.  It's ok, you can smirk because it is funny however, it wasn't at the time but, it IS now!  A little visual:  I walked on cobblestones in Rome for about 45 minutes pulling , yes pulling, that 62+ pound piece of luggage and carrying the "other" two smaller bags to my final destination.  Oh, and carried all of the bag separately up about 30 marble steps.  It was sooo much fun.  Never ever again, never!

Here's my Top 10 packing tips:
  1. Research weather
  2. Make a rough itinerary to ensure comfortable/warm/cool outfit(s) and shoes (very important)
  3. Pick a versatile set of jewelry: bracelet, necklace, earrings that matches all outfits
  4. Wear a chic scarf on travel day instead of that chunky, sexy necklace and wear it later on the trip
  5. Pick comfy clothes for your flight and layer up (this is key)
  6. Reading material: download a few books to your phone (I use the Nook feature for Blackberry)
  7. An IPOD is essential
  8. Pick 1 pair of versatile dress shoes, wear the comfy shoes on the flight, and pack 1 extra "if" needed
  9. Makeup (this in itself is a separate post altogether)
  10. Coordinate your outfits so that you can re-wear the pieces again (trust me, this makes sense)
Most importantly don't forget your tote for the flight with all of your essentials!  Below is my standard list of essentials that I bring every time I fly, period.  Don't forget your snacks either.  I bring dried cranberries, almonds, and Pringles Honey Butter stix.  Oh, and you musn't leave out your gum, Tylenol/Advil etc.

I hope you enjoyed my guest post and travel tips today!  Have a wonderful day.  And scroll down to check out "my" tote contents.
