Last time Fearne Cotton released a range, Deborah Harry of Blondie fame was undoubtedly the inspiration. Things are, however, a little different this time. 2012 is a huge year for the UK, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Olympic Games taking place on British shores.
London has always been a fantastically inspirational place for designers – Vivienne Westwood and the late Alexander McQueen both attest to that. And although Cotton may not be in the same league as those designers, she certainly has a point of view and a distinctly ‘London’ feel to her collection.
It’s the ideal time for a range like hers, as 2012 is undoubtedly London’s year. The collection includes some gorgeous maxi dresses, tops and skirts, as well as shoes and accessories to finish the look. With two massive events to prepare for, fashion lovers will have to look their best this upcoming season, and Cotton’s designs are sure to be extremely popular.
The colours and designs are rich in embellishment, with a number of big prints and metallics. Cotton’s summer range also focuses on vibrant colours, helping fashion lovers to spice up their look. In the spirit of equality, Cotton has said that “there’s always a piece for each of my friends in there, so a style and a shape to suit everybody.” The range was originally modelled and photographed at a number of iconic London attractions, helping to reiterate the inspiration behind the collection.
Fearne Cotton loves mixing rock-chic with runway styles, and the result of this is an impressively stylish and wearable range. Asked about her inspiration, she said: “People I see on the street – it could be a girl walking along, something in a magazine, books I have at home. I am constantly looking through fashion books that I have been given as gifts.”
The collection includes a number of garments that will be effortlessly stylish and comfortable to wear during the summer, including a stunning yellow maxi dress. It’s simple, elegant and can be worn to a whole variety of events – formal or not.
Fearne Cotton’s seventh range should be as successful as the previous collections, if not more so, considering the world’s focus on London this summer. Fashion inspired by London is always a hit, and when it’s band on trend – like this collection – it’s easy to see why.
