Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr is the newest actress to add to the blog. She was born in 1913 and was one of the most well known actresses of the 1940's. Hedy was absolutely gorgeous from a very young age, and was even known as "the most beautiful woman in film."

Hedy was married six times (yes six!) and had a very interesting personal life. She even drugged her maid to escape one of her husbands in order to come to New York! Hedy signed with Louis B. Mayer of MGM Studios.

She dated silent comedian Charlie Chaplin in 1941, and had flings with Burgess Meredith and several other actors. Lamarr married producer Gene Markey in 1939, divorcing him the following year. For four years she was married to English actor John Loder and had two children by him. Later in life Lamarr was married three more times, to bandleader Teddy Stauffer, Texas oil magnate Howard Lee, and lawyer Lewis Boles. All her marriages ended in divorce. Another man with whom Lamarr may have been romantically involved was composer George Antheil.

There were other scandals also: Lamarr was arrested in 1966 for shoplifting at Macy's department store, but was acquitted. She complained to a columnist that she had once had a $7 million income but by the late 1960s was subsisting on a $48-a-week pension.

She stayed out of the spotlight in her later years, mostly due to poorly done plastic surgery, and died in 2000.

What an interesting woman! Here are some gorgeous shots of Hedy Lamarr. Enjoy! Kori <3

Barbara Stanwyck

Happy Friday everyone! The weekend is finally here! Once again, so many of you have been so kind in your comments. I feel so loved and really appreciate it! Your following just inspires me to post more and more. I hope I don't run out of things to say!

In remembering a film class I took in college, I was so entranced by a certain actress who was in "Double Indemnity." Barbara Stanwyck was so cold and calculating in her role as a woman who killed her husband for the insurance money. She was the reason I began to like old black and whites.

Barbara was born Ruby Catherine Stevens in Brooklyn, NY. When she was four, her mother was killed when a drunken stranger pushed her off a moving street car. Yikes! After her father had some hardships, she was eventually given to foster homes. She tried to support herself, through a series of terrible jobs, before she finally auditioned for some shows. The rest as we say is history! Barbara died in 1990 of congestive heart failure, and emphysema (see what smoking will do to you?).

Here are some pics of Barbara in her early years as an actress. Enjoy and have a great weekend!!!

Grace

Thank you so much to all of my new followers (friends)! I am shocked at the amount of wonderful comments and support I am getting, especially since my blog is so new. You all rock! I love comments and always try to respond to them, so please keep them coming!

You have inspired me to post again today. I came across some pics of Grace Kelly and simply sighed. She was such an unbelievable beauty, and so many of us idolize her because of her princess status.

One of my favorite Hitchcock movies is "Rear Window." She was so amazing to watch in that film. Those clothes, that hair, that smile! "After giving up her acting career and marrying Prince Rainier Grimaldi III of Monaco to become Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco. She had three children: Princess Caroline, Prince Albert, and Princess Stéphanie. Grace died on 14 September 1982 after her car went off a road in the cliffs of Monaco."

Here are some pics of the fabulous Princess. Enjoy!

Clara Bow

Often known as the "It Girl," or the "greatest silent film actress," Clara Bow was always beautiful to look at. Her parents were poor and neglected her, often yelling and screaming in front of her. She chose a new life and became one of the most recognized actresses of all time. "To promote their young star, Paramount was only too happy to help sensationalize every love affair she had. The otherwise shy and reclusive Clara gave into the expectations and trappings of being the It girl. A hypocritical Hollywood society did not take kindly to her wild raucous ways and were very quick to shun and distance themselves from her. Many of Clara’s exploits were quite mild compared to some of her Hollywood counterparts. The only difference being was that her counterparts were more careful about airing out their dirty laundry."

The true original flapper, she died at age 60. Here are some amazing photos of Clara.

Lauren Bacall

Lauren Bacall is yet another one of my favorite actresses of times gone. She has this grit to her that appears as sexiness. She seemed like a tough broad, one who you could joke with (maybe tell a dirty joke to). When most people think of Bacall, they think of Bogie. Bacall and Bogart were together for 13 years, beginning when she was 19 and he was 45. She says he was the love of her life: "He was very apprehensive about the age difference. But it didn't bother me. I thought we suited one another perfectly." Here are some of my favorite images of Lauren. Enjoy!
