Elf

Christmas season has officially started and what better way to begin than trivia from one of my favorite holiday films? Elf seriously cracks me up every time I watch it. Maybe it's Will Ferrell? Maybe it's James Caan? I don't know, but here are some fabulous facts about the film.

By the way, how was your Thanksgiving? Tell me all about it!

The Christmas giveaway ends tonight, so make sure to get your entries in before it's too late!!

--When this screenplay first emerged in 1993, Jim Carrey was attached to star in the lead.

--The outside of Gimbels is a digitally altered view of the 34th St. Macy's, a reference to Miracle on 34th Street (1947). Gimbels was Macy's main competition but it is now closed.

--One of the skyscrapers built by Buddy in Gimbels is the Liberty One building in Philadelphia. In real life, Gimbels was a Philadelphia-based department store.

--When she first meets Buddy, Jovie asks, "Did Crumpet put you up to this"? Crumpet is the name David Sedaris called himself while working as an elf, as recounted in his Christmas story anthology "The Santaland Diaries." David Sedaris's sister, Amy Sedaris appears in the film as James Caan's assistant, Deb. The usage of the name Crumpet may refer to Sedaris or may be a coincidence.

--Near the end, when Santa is showing Michael his nice list, all of the people on Santa's list worked on the movie: Victoria Down (key makeup artist) wants an English riding saddle with leathers and a crop; Drew Davidson (chief lighting technician, as Andrew Davidson) wants Rock-em Sock-em robots; Andreas Nieman (assistant property master, as Andy Nieman) wants a complete set of titanium drivers and a new golf glove; Nathan Tichenor (co-production coordinator) wants an Apple iBook with 1 gig hard drive and a built-in CD burner; Michael Hobbs is a character in the movie; Jimmy Miller (executive producer) wants a Hot Wheels turbo ultra race track with six cars, power launcher and track cleaner and Penny Gibbs (unit production manager) wants an Old MacDonald Farm Kit with Battery Operated Tractor and a Remote Controlled Cow-Tipper.

--The elf Ming Ming, who appears briefly in the beginning of the film, is played by Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the classic holiday film A Christmas Story (1983).

--The brief TV news clip showing Buddy walking in Central Park (just before Buddy's dad and brother find him), and the still picture of Buddy in the news clip, closely mimic the famous 1967 film of an alleged Bigfoot ("Patty") taken by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin.

Thanks

Well, it's time for the annual what I'm thankful for post. I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving filled with love, friends, family, and good food! Thank you so much for all your prayers for my dad and his health. He is home and doing much better.

First, I'm thankful for my amazing family. My dad is home from the hospital and we are going to spend the day together. My brother and sister-in-law are home from Ohio and it feels like old times again.

I'm thankful for my health. I thank God every day for the ability to be up and active. I can't imagine having to be immobile or sick, especially at this time of year.

I am so very thankful for my job. I feel so blessed every day to have a job I love, and to be able to be there to learn from and educate my teenagers. You just never know what they are going to say!

Lastly, I am so thankful for my personal relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ. He continues to bless me more every day and I look forward to all the changes that the future will bring!

God bless you and your family on this Thanksgiving. And, don't forget to enter my Christmas giveaway before Saturday when I make the drawing! Have a great day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello all, I'm a little behind on my blogging. My dad helped my brother and sister-in-law move back from Ohio, and overdid it. He ended up in the ER yesterday and after many tests, they think he has bulging discs in his back, and one possible herniated disc. He is in so much pain and is still in the hospital. They are hoping to send him home today. I am worried about him and my mom, she worries so much about everything. So, I'm a little busy! I had to do the Thanksgiving shopping for the first time on my own today and am feeling really responsible!

Please pray for him to heal and that he can come home for Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I am going to extend the Christmas Giveaway until Friday so things settle down. Please continue to enter and spread the word, and I will draw on Saturday. Hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving. I know what I'm thankful for--my family and my health. What about you?

Billy's Birthday

It's a little early, but it's Billy the Kid's birthday in about a half an hour. He would be turning 150. It's been a while since I've done a post on someone from the wild west, so it seems about time. Here is some info about the famous gunslinger:

--Billy the Kid spoke fluent Spanish.

--Billy the Kid had a crush on his Silver City grade school teacher Miss Mary Richards.

--About the age of 14-15, the Kid's first criminal offense was stealing several pounds of butter from a rancher, which he sold to a local merchant. After a tongue-lashing from the town sheriff, which did little good, the Kid along with the town troublemaker, Sombrero Jack, got involved in stealing laundry. This time the sheriff locked the young teenager up.

--Billy the Kid loved to sing. How good was he? Both George Coe and Mary Ealy (wife of Dr. Taylor Ealy) remarked that Billy the Kid had a beautiful tenor voice.

--Supposedly Billy the Kid gambled with Doc Holiday, had dinner with Jesse James, and was in a target shooting contest along with Bat Masterson.

--As of now, Billy the Kid holds the record for the most motion pictures made on an individual in film making history.

So, do you think the rumors are true, that Pat Garrett really shot Billy the Kid? Or, did he live on unknown to those around him?

Posh Part II

I am so far behind on my magazines, I literally have a stack sitting on the floor looking at me. So, it's no wonder I missed my favorite fashion icon, Victoria (Posh) Beckham on the cover of November's Marie Claire. "Someone said to me once that fame is not like a jacket. You can’t put it on and then take it off. Sometimes it’s frustrating if I’m out with the kids and have to deal with the paparazzi. That comes with it though. But it was fun becoming famous. I mean, I even wanted to be one of the kids in FAME when I was growing up. To sing and dance on the top of a taxi cab in NY—I was so there. Though the posters on my wall were of Mikhail Baryshnikov because my truest dream was to be a classical dancer. I’ve been in the public eye now for about 15 or 16 years and I’m very aware that fame is not a given. I have to maintain it. It’s not just something that will always be there. But I’ve always been a worker. I’ve never expected be given anything."

Here are some photos from the shoot. Enjoy!

Oh, by the way-I am completely shocked that I have 499 followers! I am so thankful to all of you who actually care about my blog and what I write about! Let's see if I can get to 500 soon? Don't forget to enter my Christmas giveaway before Thursday!

American Music Awards

I decided to watch the AMA's tonight for the first time in years. I'm not overly impressed with the music out there, but do like some of the performers, so I thought I'd share some pics of the show with you. What did you think of Taylor Swift's new do? And how about that reunion between Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block? Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

Once again-don't forget to enter my Christmas Giveaway! Only 4 days left!

Happy Birthday Jodie

Today is Jodie Foster's 48th birthday. Wow. I don't often post on celebrity birthdays, but cannot believe the little girl from Taxi Driver is turning 48. I have always thought she was a brilliant actress, and my favorite of her roles in The Accused, and Stealing Home. I love the fact that she isn't typecast, and can play a variety of roles so convincingly. Here are some photos of her throughout her career. Happy Birthday Jodie!

Don't forget to enter my Christmas giveaway which ends next week!!! Happy Friday!
